Post 709: Any change in the social and political landscape?

Almost 2 weeks have passed since Bersih 2.0, now more popularly  called 709 (July 9th incidence). Both side's claim victory, while the demonstrators claim that they manage to gather a significant number of people, they claim the numbers are easily in the region of 50,000, the other side including the authorities claim otherwise, they say the the numbers are only around 5,000 to 6,000 (IGP's statement), and after they realized that it doesn't make sense, they revised it to 15,000 (Najib's statement).Loads of photo's are uploaded by the demonstrators and sympathisers on the internet to support their claim, be it on the YouTube or social media's, the authorities claim otherwise, they claim that they have their own recordings which they will unleash very soon mainstream TV.While the demonstrators claim that all the video's and photo's clearly shows the high-handed manner in which the authorities man-handled the demonstrators, the authorities claim otherwise, minimal force was used

What about the other's? What about the fence sitters? What about the neutrals? Looking  at the responds, it seems that there is an indeed big swing moving away from the Government (I wouldn't want to call it a swing towards opposition....) Media statements and blog entries by prominent people such as Marina Mahathir, increased the momentum of the swing. No thanks to blunders such as  the one by Liow Tiong Lai  and acting KL Police Chief, Amar Singh, it inadvertently lend help to the demonstrator's cause.Post 709, Berahim Ali and Khairy Jamaluddin have been unusually quite, no thanks to their supporter's who deserted them in the very last minute.

The way the wind is blowing. the way the rumour mill is working currently, from the peoples view is that, if an election is held in the near future (the general election), the impact of Bersih 2.0 is expected to be felt much more severely compared to Bersih 2007. The pendulum swing is clearly felt and the advantage is clearly not with the current Government.Socially, the 709 also proves to be just the right platform for convergence of the various races, all the major races were taking part walking and demonstrating side by side, something that is envisioned by the current Government via their 1Malaysia slogan, but sad to say not to much success.

Whatever it is, Bersih 2.0 or 709, the people call it a peaceful demonstration, the authorities called it an illegal rally, they call themselves demonstrators, the authorities termed them as illegal protesters or even rioters, the demonstrator's call it a huge success, the authorities labelled it a failure....sometimes it is puzzling and mind boggling that one event could have two hugely differing reports and claims.............only time would tell........ the impact of 709............ciao..............a.h.baharom
