Non-stop 10 hours 'teh tarik' show: Unnecessary wastage in the name of Records

I felt disgusted when I came across the news that the Organization of Indian Muslim Communities of Malaysia  (IMCON) intend to organize non-stop 'teh tarik' show which is expected to last for 10 hours and make its way to the Malaysian Book of Records.I was also dismayed to hear that it will be supported by the Kapitan Keling Mosque Committee, the anger moved a notch higher when it is scheduled to be held in the holy month of Sya'aban, and during when the food prices are soaring, many people are tightening their belt, the poor are struggling, and these idiots have the guts to organize such event in the name of creating records.

Among the event planned are the 'longest' teh tarik, the 'teh tarik' with the most foam and many other idiotic acts, with these foods going to the drain. Whatever stupid program they want to organize, I will appreciate if the could remove the word 'Muslim' from it. Islam is a beautiful religion, Muslims are expected to carry a high degree of morale and will avoid any kind of wastage, especially food, and I strongly urge the relevant religious authorities to check and ensure that none of the Mosque fund is channelled into this program, especially during hard-times like this.If they are adamant to carry on, use their own money, and STOP using the word Muslims.

GOD have mercy on us.....and help the country and the rakyat....a.h.baharom

Malaysian Food Inflation: Myth or fact, revisited

I was shaking my head in disbelief (and I belief many of you too) when I read the statement by Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Tan Lian Hoe which was conveyed to the Dewan Negara on Monday. Malaysia's food inflation rate fell to 4.6% in May, compared to 4.9% in the previous month, she further claimed (as usual) that this rate was lower when compared with other countries such as Thailand (8.4%), Indonesia (10.2%), China (11.7%) and South Korea (6.2%)....( I wish I could tell her straight to the face.(seriously......go and fly a kite...and get a life...can't you guys come up with better reasoning?).

The way it is explained...as though there is a general reduction in food price,,,the truth is the general food price continues to increase for the month of May, but for a smaller quantum, in other words, this is what known as disinflation, many quarters often confuse themselves between disinflation and deflation.Disinflation is a slowing in the rate of increase in the general price level(in this case the general food price), as represented by the average price of food in the consumer basket. Deflation, on the other hand, refers to a persistent fall in the level of the overall  price index, with negative inflation being recorded year after year.

And bear in mind, this is the monthly inflation rate and not annual, on a layman's term, the price of food increases 4.9% for April, 4.6% for the month of May, imagine if you could work out the mathematics (or is it arithmatics?) , how much the price of food have increased for the first five months of 2011?...She is not brave enough to announce all the figures and purposely picked up the disinflation for the month of May. The answer to Dewan Negara is indeed fishy, politically motivated and ill advised. Why can't the Minister be honest and be transparent, what does she think of Malaysians?, Stooges with low IQ, madam, for your kind information, you can't fool us, we feel the pinch, we can feel the shrinking purchasing power parity. Our figures are low with other countries, because they are honest and transparent unlike you and your Ministry.....you can't sweep everything under the carpet,,,,sooner or later the truth will prevail...and how will that portray you?

The follies of Umno and the EC

The follies of Umno and the EC

By Mariam Mokhtar
Jul 4, 11 | MalaysiaKini
On Nov 10, 2007, around 40,000 protestors made their way towards Istana Negara in Bersih’s first march for clean and fair elections. Did it make a difference? Yes.
The rakyat experienced change. It galvanised them by reinforcing their belief that together they could prove a point – that Umno is not infallible. That Umno is not great. That Umno has an Achilles heel which will bring it down: Arrogance.
After 2007, the promises from both Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the prime minister at the time, and the Election Commission (EC) have all come to nought.
As a result of this, Bersih 2.0 was bound to happen. The rakyat half expected Umno and its loyal and obedient servant, the EC, to break whatever pledges they made. Five years on, have we seen any of the Bersih’s demands implemented?
In 2007, Abdullah said that the EC had acceded and would comply with many of the demands of Bersih.
“They wanted a transparent ballot box and the use of indelible ink to prevent multiple voting. The EC has agreed to that. Other than that, they can negotiate with the commission.”
The EC now says that ink is only for backward countries. They forget that we are as backward as any other banana republic.
What use is a transparent ballot box when it is alleged that boxes stuffed with BN-only votes are swapped with those from the actual polling station?
“The same body since independence’
In the 2007 report by Malaysiakini, Abdullah thought it incredulous that the opposition kept finding fault with the EC “despite the commission being the same body since independence”.
Umno/BN has also been in power since independence. Could this be significant?
Perhaps, Abdullah is unaware that something that has been around for aeons is no proof that it is sound, or reliable. All he need do is look at the deadwood in his civil service. They have been around for ages, perhaps all their working life and yet they can be the most unproductive and inefficient.
Abdullah also said, “Does that mean that in this country the opposition cannot win? Of course they can. In Kelantan, PAS has formed the government numerous times. Then they won in Terengganu.
“They can win. If we control everything, there is no way they can win. But that is not our way. We want the public to sincerely tell us what they want and we will respect the results of an election.”
Fast-forward to 2011 and various Umno supporters opine the same, when they claim that the EC is fair and that the opposition control of five states after the 2008 GE was proof enough.
Did they ever stop to consider that if there had been no gerrymandering, fraud, vote- buying and other malpractices, then the opposition might have had a clean sweep through most, if not all the states and not just the five?
If Umno and EC needed further reminders, the former European Commission envoy, Thierry Rommel, said that the use of the ISA and violent measures to prevent the 2007 Bersih rally from taking place, meant that Malaysia still lived under a state of emergency.
He cited the short election campaigning period, the media bias towards the ruling party and said, “It’s not a secret that elections are not fair.”
Many might recall Abdullah’s vow to suppress the rally which was also termed illegal and banned because “….there have never been peaceful gatherings.”
He instructed the PDRM to quell the march and to make arrests. Bersih organisers were termed “stubborn”, “defiant” and law-breakers.
He also said, “Tapi saya mesti kata saya pantang dicabar (Don’t dare to contradict anything I say).”
Infantile remarks
Perhaps Umno can recall more of their infantile remarks made after the Bersih 2007 rally.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Abdul Aziz called the opposition names such as “pondan” (wimps) and that the “brains of opposition members do not function well.”
In an interview with Al-Jazeera, both Nazri and the Umno Youth deputy chief then, Khairy Jamaluddin, agreed that “there was nothing wrong with the system and that it worked well.”
Five years later, in the countdown towards the July 9 Walk for Democracy, similar tactics are being used to jeopardise the Bersih 2.0 march.
As before, the government has called the march illegal and using fear as its weapon, said that all protests would end in violence.
In 2007, state television was asked to endlessly repeat scenes of demonstrations around the world which portrayed violence. Today, the same is being asked of the media.
Anyone wearing the yellow Bersih T-shirt and other paraphernalia promoting the rally is arrested. Scores of people besides the NGOs, individuals and opposition politicians have been hounded by the police. There have been accusations of foreign interference to topple the Malaysian government.
In 2007, Abdullah said that the Bersih march would be “an inconvenience to the public as well as shop owners in the city”.
His childish effort to deflect attention from proper governance seems to be concentrated on shoppers’ comfort.
Today, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin joined the cabinet chorus and described the Berish rally as politically-motivated and a threat to national security as well as the country’s reputation.
The Communications, Information and Culture Minister, Rais Yatim (left), claimed that Bersih was going to topple the government and cause widespread unrest. He also claimed that the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) had links with communism, to cause chaos.
Umno and the EC have forgotten the original aims of the Bersih 2007 rally and none of the promises have been upheld. Neither Umno nor the EC have learned their lessons.
Why should we believe them when they say they will discuss electoral reform only if we stop marching for Bersih 2.0?
Remember what the Kuala Lumpur chief police officer Zulhasnan Najib Baharuddin said when he was asked about journalists being attacked by his policemen during the 2007 march?
He remarked, “Are there reports? It has not been brought to my attention.”
So it appears that Umno, the EC and the police have short memories, or are in denial or simply lie.
And they wonder why the rakyat desires Bersih 2.0?

If Bersih 2.0 is held in the Stadium: Would it be considered a legal rally/entity?

After the decree by DYMM Yang DiPertuan Agong, Sultan Mizan, Prime Minister, Najib made the statement that the Government is willing to assist Bersih 2.0, and willing to provide the Stadium for the gathering purposes, Dr Asri (the former Perlis Mufti) strongly urged the Bersih 2.0 organizers to grab this opportunity, he further suggested a campaign preluding the gathering with distribution of yellow flags to be attached to vehicles and the rakyat could show support by openly wearing yellow Bersih shirts and if possible for it to be even held for  a week. I too, support the suggestion by Dr Asri.

But, I have a few disturbing questions, would the Police willingly provide assistance to the organizers, giving protection from foreseen disturbance and opposition from groups such as Perkasa and UMNO Youth?

Would the Police be dropping charges against those who are arrested and charged for siding with an outlawed organization? After-all Bersih would not be an illegal entity any more

Would the Police be returning all the confiscated items such as paraphernalia, t-shirts, fliers etc.?

Would the media, printed as well as the electronic stop painting and calling it as an illegal rally and start calling it Bersih 2.0 and promote it?

New Stadium for Kelantan if PAS falls: Another blatant bribe from Najib

In what suppose to be an official and working trip to Kelantan, for the umpteenth time Najib offered a bribe. This time he dangled a new football stadium for Kelantan if the voters could ensure that PAS falls in the next General Election and returned Kelantan to Barisan Nasional, but believe me, although the news could be verified, recordings are available the Anti-Corruption Agency and Election Commission will have their own interpretation and he will be absolved of any wrongdoing. How do we expect our country to have a healthy economic growth when the Prime Minister is basically mismanaging the Government's coffer? . I would be the first (yes I would) to praise him if the money comes from his OWN pockets or from the UMNO's pocket, then no one would give a damn on what he intends to do. But seriously, what do you expect from a man (does he deserve to be called one?) whose food and beverage bill for his own daughter's engagement was billed to his Ministry.

I also sincerely believe that Kelantanese folks are wise, they don't need to sell their souls to the Satan in order to get a new football stadium, after all they don't need to look further, just take a look at the closest neighbour  Terengganu, who was give an instant 'pakai buang' stadium, which could only be used once, and the roof collapsed....and it remains like that until today, we do not need any more white elephants. And on a personal note for Mr PM, stop having an impression that the Rakyat are all idiots, with low IQ, no principle and easily could be bought. This is not the Ice Age...certainly not.....we deserve to be treated with respect and dignity......GOD have mercy and help us.....happy weekend and ciao.....a.h.baharom

Street Demonstration: Why the Double Standard?

It puzzles me, it really does, the way the authorities approaching the looming demonstrations that are planned. Bersih 2.0 is being hounded, pressured, demonised...and you name it, they've done it kinda of feeling.Front paged news on mainstream media, prime time news coverage, and even the friday prayer's sermon mentioned it. Arrest are being made, on anyone who is suspected of propagating, promoting or instigating Bersih 2.0.T-shirts displaying Bersih logo are being confiscated, anyone in possession of Bersih 2.0 materials are being hauled up, even the National Laureatte and poet, A.Samad Said, is not being spared, called for questioning on his support for Bersih via his innocent poem. As of this blog being written, not less than 105 people have been arrested in relation with Bersih 2.0.(Even the Malaysian football team which normally wears yellow jersey for the home games, surprisingly wear blue this time around when the met Taiwan @ Chinese Taipei in the World Cup qualifying first round first leg match...and on a lighter side...it is rumoured that DiGi services are paralysed because all the DiGi yellow men are arrested...:-))

But, what baffles and disgust me is that the special treatment received by the other two organization, albeit UMNO Youth and PERKASA (or as some people label it as PEKASAM or PERKOSA). They are blatantly issuing warnings and taking it to the streets as though they have special immunities. The last two major incidents are when, a group of people from these two organization threatened to torch PKR Headquarters and the demonstration against the Penag Chief Minister in Penang today (and why am I keep seeing the Komtar Traders Association vice-president  Mohamad Ghani Abdul Jiman who is the King of cheap publicity in almost all occasions that are against Lim Guan Eng?...mmmhhh point to ponder), .While the former incidence only involved verbal threatening, in the latter a few cars were damaged, their windscreen were smashed by the PERKASA/UMNO Youth mob's, I bet you, it would not be shown on tonights news bulletin, neither would it be reported in tommorrows mainstream newspapers. If yellow shirts with the words Bersih 2.0 is outlawed, why the same is not done on red t-shirts with the words Patriot? If the yellow t-shirts are promoting the demonstration by Bersih, the red t-shirts are no angels, the are indeed promoting the demonstration by the UMNO Youth.

If Lokman Adam threatened to torch PKR headquarters, the demonstration today threatened to close down Penang Bridge. If the Deputy IGP, the infamous Khalid (remember him?...he is the former Selangor CPO who caused lots of hardship to the other Khalid (MB)) is so swift in throwing the lawbook at Bersih 2.0, threathening with all sorts of laws, why the same Khalid is not doing that to PERKASA and UMNO Youth? Why the double standard police? GOD have mercy and help us...ciao....a.h.baharom
